Premio Medwell: Mediterranean Wellbeing for Human and Environment is an initiative born from the collaboration between Alsa Lab Società Benefit and the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Federico II University of Naples, aiming to reward the most innovative doctoral thesis in Nutraceuticals, Functional Foods, and Human Health..

The institution of this award has its roots in the vision of the Mediterranean as a bridge between different peoples and cultures, the scenario of millennial populations who have greatly contributed to the history of humanity.
Italy, in particular, thanks to its strategic position, represents a key player in the game that calls us all to use innovation and technologies to rewrite a new paradigm, which sees the protection of the environment and human health as the only global act.

In this scenario, the desire to highlight the young minds of our country, who are often underestimated, is embedded. The aim is to value their ideas and their driving force towards innovation and search of a brighter future.

The Medwell Award offers a monetary award to university students who have developed and defended a doctoral thesis on specific topics of interest in the fields of wellness and health, particularly focusing on the study of new and innovative functional food products.

Intended recipients of the Medwell Award

The call for the Medwell Award is aimed at doctoral candidates in Nutraceuticals, Functional Foods, and Human Health at the University of Naples Federico II who wish to test their specific skills and work on innovative projects.

Participation Parameters:

    • Ph.D. title obtained within the XXXVI Cycle of the Ph.D. Program in Nutraceuticals, Functional Foods, and Human Health at the University of Naples Federico II, completed by 08/02/2024.
    • Conducting a research project on topics related to nutraceuticals, supplements, or functional foods, with particular interest in the formulation and analytical aspects related to these themes.


Objectives of the MEDWELL Award

The Prize

The 2024 Medwell Award will be given to a doctoral thesis in Nutraceuticals, Functional foods and Human health, an international doctoral program born from the collaboration between theFederico II University of Naples, the University of Valencia (E) e la Tshwane University of Technology of Pretoria, South Africa (SA).

The aim of the international research doctorate is to identify potential innovative nutraceuticals and new functional foods, encompassing the widest range of research in the various fields of study.

The winner of the call, after careful selection by the commission, will receive € 3,000.00 as a prize for the most innovative thesis.

Alsa Lab Società Benefit

Among the main missions of Alsa Lab Società Benefit is to establish a “bridge” between university education and the professional practice of recent graduates. This involves developing actions aimed at identifying excellent students, guiding university researchers towards industrially relevant topics, and aligning university teachings with the needs of businesses.

Federico II University – Faculty of Pharmacy

The partnership between Alsa Lab Società Benefit and the Pharmacy Department at the Federico II University of Naples has deep roots. Raffaele Aloia and Rosaria Santangelo, Alsa Lab founders, were students at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Federico II and have always considered university education a fundamental pillar of their careers.
